Quick note - Ji Sung Park

It is an over used cliché in football about certain players being unsung heroes and I'm not entirely sure it applies to Ji Sung Park. He has been at United now for a good few years and most fans have learnt to appreciate what he brings to the team, especially over the last couple of years. But today must have been especially sweet for him.

Two goals, the second a last minutes winner against a dogged Wolves defence. Great stuff.

Dimitar Berbatov - debut coming up.

I just realised that Manchester United signed Dimitar Berbatov two weeks ago and I never posted anything about it. He is a very fine player, there is no arguing about that. However, I do feel that some people are getting carried away. His goalscoring record in the Premier League is good but it isn't exceptional. In fact he scored the same number of goals in the same number of games as Robbie Keane last year and no where near the number of Ronaldo. He is very good but just because they have him now doesn't mean they are going to walk away with the title or defend the European Cup successfully.

I am happy he is there though but they did pay over the odds. Although about £5 million of that is basically hush money so that Spurs don't report them for practically kidnapping Berbatov from the airport. Obviously that was very poor form from Man Utd but the Premier League is a soap opera afterall so there is nothing wrong with a little drama every now and then. So his debut looks like being tomorrow morning against Liverpool. I am never confident about the results in these matches with Liverpool even though Uniteds record over the last few years has been exemplary. I'm going to say it will be a score draw with Berbatov on the score sheet.

We shall see...

FA Cup folly

I am so annoyed over Manchester United's exit from the FA Cup today. Going out to Portsmouth at home! How did that happen? They beat them recently enough in the league and while they only won two nil that day they played them off the park and missed a host of chances. The same thing happened again today but this time they didn't take any of their chances and lost to a penalty. So, so annoying.

I've heard Ferguson giving out about the referee and yes, I agree that he made a mistake in not awarding a penalty to United in the early stages of the first half but he isn't addressing the real issues. They played well, controlled the game and made chances but they didn't take them. Not for the first time either. I still think they need a real goalscoring striker and I've thought that all season. I know Rooney and Tevez have both scored goals this season but neither are near 25 goals. A striker like Berbatov or Eto playing in this team would easily have 25-30 goals. I'm not saying get rid of either Rooney or Tevez just have them playalongside a real goalscorer. At least Ronaldo is doing the business.

It should make me happy that at least Chelsea were knocked out today too but that infuriate me more as it should have meant United being the out and out favourite for the competition. I suppose in recent times they have been unlucky as this I think, was their 13th consecutive meeting with Premier league opposition. Compare that with a team like Liverpool who always seem to be playing lower league opposition.

Anyway, there is always next year.

Cristiano Ronaldo

I didn't see the highlights of the match yet but judging from the time of both goals it looks like Reading put up a good fight. Cristiano Ronaldo got another goal today, bringing his total goals to an incredible 17 in just 18 games in the Premier League.

That is an amazing statistic but when you consider that he is not a striker but a winger then it is even more remarkable. He does get praise in the press but I don't think enough is being made of his contribution. While typing this I just saw Ronaldo's on TV3 and it was another cool finish. He really is on white hot form. If he can continue I think he will break the record set by Alan Shearer of 31 league goals.
